Vascular arbuscular mycorrhiza (VAM) enhances phosphorus uptake of crop plants and help in better utilization of applied phosphatic fertilizers, particularly in soil subjected to rapid fixation of phosphorus. The VAM absorb nutrients from beyond depletion zone and supplies to the host cells with phosphorus. VAM colonization increases plant growth also by enhancing the uptake of various micronutrients like Zn, Fe, Cu, Mn, Ca, S etc. It also helps in controlling soil borne diseases. It also absorbs moisture at a distance, away from root surface and make it available to host. This helps during drought conditions.
